Sales copy that converts

A sales page is another name for the landing page where people can enroll in your course. Having a great sales page is just like having a great salesperson talking about your course, so think about this as your opportunity to educate your audience and share why your course is the best possible solution for their problems.

Writing sales copy can feel intimidating if you've never done it before, so I want to share a secret up front to put your mind at ease. There's a well established principle in the world of direct response sales copywriting called the 40/40/20 rule. This rule says that there are three key factors that contribute to the success of your campaign. 40% of your success depends on how good your offer is. Your offer includes your course, and maybe some bonuses. The second 40% depends on your email list, and how well you've attracted the right people to subscribe. And the last 20% of your success is your creative, which includes your emails, your sales page, and everything else. In other words, the sales page copy is critical…..but the much bigger piece of the pie is that 80% that comes from pitching the right offer to the right people. Your sales copy is still important, but it's not nearly as weighty as the work you've already done to build your course and identify your target customer.

Here's what we'll cover in this section. First, we'll talk about how to write sales copy that converts your email subscribers into customers. You'll make sure that your message is as persuasive as possible without being salesy. From there, we'll talk about the building blocks of a powerful sales page, and we'll offer some best practices to optimize your checkout sequence, or the series of pages including the checkout page and the thank you page. Lastly, we'll teach you how to build these pages in Teachable with absolutely no tech experience.

In case you're feeling overwhelmed or not tech savvy, I want to reassure you that you don't need any special tech skills to set up your sales page and checkout flow. Teachable has all the tools you need, and we've done most of the work for you already. All you'll need to do is create the content, or the words on the page, and we'll take care of the rest. With that in mind, let's get started on our next lesson, where we'll share our best tips for writing compelling sales copy, even if you've never done it before.
